Dedication & Aknowledgements

While I have a number of relatives and acquaintances who have suffered the indignities of breast cancer, this book is dedicated to my sister Sara whose humor and grace sustained her throughout her battle.

A work as extensive and bizarre as this inevitably draws on many sources. Over the year or so that these cartoons emerged, I appealed to family, friends and colleagues for ideas. Squeezing the last 15 or so from what seemed a dry sponge was the most difficult phase, and I could not have done it without the cheerful participation of my creative daughter Delphine and my wife Jacqueline. At work, ideas flowed from Caroline Hume-Kendall, Rob Taylor and Eleanor Hatfield. And of course, my sister Sara, the original target audience for these jokes, was an active contributor. Others chimed in along the way with ideas that eventually became cartoons. Robert Morehouse, president of Vermilion in Boulder, Colorado and incidentally my cousin, spearheaded the transformation of this project into a book. Without his commitment and the time and talent of his staff, this collection might never have been published. Thanks to all of you.
